Former Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, has dismissed the possibility of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde emerging as Nigeria’s next president, describing the governor as “just a starter” in national politics.
Shittu made the remarks while speaking during an interview with PrimeStar TV Nigeria on the political prospects of Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Asked whether he could see Makinde becoming the next President of Nigeria, Shittu questioned the governor’s national political profile and experience.
“He is just a starter. Where is he known? What does he have?” Shittu asked.
When reminded that Alao-Akala had similarly berated Makinde during his first governorship bid, Shittu maintained that the presidency requires more than political ambition.
“Being a president is not about magic,” he said, adding that Makinde was, in his view, suffering from “over-ambition.”
Shittu’s comments come as political activities and alignments begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with discussions about potential presidential contenders increasingly featuring prominently in Nigeria’s political space.
Makinde, who is serving his second term as governor of Oyo State, has not, in the extract of the interview, been quoted responding to Shittu’s assessment.
