The Government of Oyo State on Friday October 2,2020, and the Shell Nigeria Gas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU), which would see the company extend its gas pipeline infrastructure to the state.
While Governor Seyi Makinde signed the MoU on behalf of the state government, SNG’s Managing Director, Ed Ubong, signed on behalf of the oil company.
Speaking shortly after signing the MoU, Makinde stated that the partnership was an indication that the policies and programmes put in place by his administration to expand the economy of the state have begun to yield positive fruits.
The Governor said that the project was timely and that it would aid the industrialisation drive embarked upon by the government, adding that the Gas Pipeline Infrastructure Project would be run on a Build, Operate and Transfer basis for 15 years.
Makinde pointed out that his administration would open the state to series of business opportunities.
In his speech, Ubong, pointed out that the development would aid the industrialisation effort of the state amid the ongoing efforts by the Governor’s administration to expand its economy.
He maintained that the partnership with the state would create the opportunity to further promote gas as a more reliable, cleaner and cost-effective alternative to liquid fuels in the state, stressing, “gas is the key to boosting industrialisation”.
