The two surveillance aircraft acquired by the Oyo State Government have arrived in Ibadan, fulfilling the government’s commitment to deliver the aircraft before the end of July.
The development marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen security through enhanced intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, noting that the arrival of the aircraft represents another step in the government’s strategy to improve the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security challenges across Oyo State.
Oyelade recalled that the state government announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader measures to enhance security architecture and support law enforcement agencies across the state.
He further stated that Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, confirmed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos before their deployment to Oyo State.
According to the commissioner, the government had assured residents about a week ago that the aircraft would arrive in the state before the end of July, adding that their arrival has fulfilled that pledge.
The aircraft are expected to enhance the operations of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant security formations, by improving aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
Oyelade added that Governor Makinde was at the airport to receive the two surveillance aircraft on their arrival in Ibadan.
