The Oyo State Government has uncovered a new strategy being used by kidnappers in Oyo State, particularly, Ibadan, the state capital to kidnap the students.
According to a memo signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Oyo State, Mrs. A. B. Atere, the kidnappers will wear a similar school uniform as the children in their car and offer to help unsuspecting school children to their school. Once the innocent children enter the vehicle, they zoom off to unknown destination.
The memo addressed to the Chairmen, TESCOM, SUBEB, BOTAVED,, Zonal and local Inspectors of Education, principals, head teachers of public and private schools, private schools’ owners and parents, titled, “Need to be security conscious and reject free rides offered by strangers”, stated that the Special Services Department of the governor’s office uncovered this strategy of kidnapping.
The memo dated October 27, 2021 stated, “Consequent upon the above, all stakeholders are enjoined to sensitize/warn their wards or children under their care on the need to be security conscious and reject rides offered by strangers”.
