Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reassured Nigerians that the Federal Government, in collaboration with security agencies and international partners, is working tirelessly to overcome the country’s security challenges.
The First Lady gave the assurance yesterday during her first official state visit to Ekiti State, while meeting with members of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, speaking in her capacity as the wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the President remains committed to restoring peace and security across the country.
According to her, the growing cases of insecurity and kidnapping are deeply troubling, but efforts are ongoing both locally and internationally to tackle the menace.
“The President is working tirelessly to ensure that issues of insecurity are curbed. The situation is highly disheartening,” she said.
She disclosed that some foreign nations, including the United States and France, are collaborating with Nigeria to address the security situation, noting that many of those behind the unrest are non-Nigerians.
“The US, for example, is helping. Most of the people causing this unrest are non-Nigerians, though security issues also exist in Nigeria. I cannot say too much because some of the information is highly classified. America is helping, France too is helping, and some other developed countries are also supporting Nigeria,” she added.
The First Lady described Nigeria as a blessed nation that cannot be intimidated despite its present challenges.
“Nigeria, because of her nature as a blessed country, is too great to be intimidated. You can see the beauty even here in Ekiti,” she said.
She expressed optimism that the country would soon overcome its challenges and urged Nigerians, especially women, to remain prayerful and hopeful.
“I believe these challenges will soon come to an end. Women should continue to pray because God is faithful,” she said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council and the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adu Adejimi Alagbado, commended President Tinubu for policies aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The monarch said he had confidence in the President’s leadership, recalling how Tinubu transformed Lagos State during his tenure as governor.
He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address insecurity and kidnapping in Ekiti and other parts of the country.
During the visit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also presented a Business Recapitalisation Grant of N100 million to 2,000 women petty traders in Ekiti State, with each beneficiary receiving N50,000.
She explained that the grant was designed to support women economically and encourage them in sustaining their families and businesses.
The First Lady was accompanied on the visit by the Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima; APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile Idele; and the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
She and other political leaders at the event also rallied support for a second term for Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, while also canvassing support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Olayemi Oyebanji, alongside wives of other governors and political stakeholders, urged residents of the state to support continuity in governance both at the state and national levels.
