Chief Lekan Alabi, the Abese of Ibadanland and one of the senior chiefs in the Olubadan-in-Council, was on Sunday buried according to Islamic rites, a day after his death at the age of 76.
Alabi, a veteran journalist, renowned public relations practitioner and former Chief Press Secretary to several Oyo State governors, died in Lagos on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
The Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) was held at his residence in the Akobo area of Ibadan before his interment at the Eternal Home Cemetery along the Ibadan–Oyo Expressway.
The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiy Abubakar, led the funeral prayer, attended by family members, friends, associates and other mourners who gathered to pay their last respects.
Until his death, Alabi was widely respected for his contributions to journalism, public relations, public affairs, and the promotion of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage.
He also served as Chief Press Secretary to several governors of Oyo State and remained an influential voice in community development and public discourse.
