The New Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from a viral social media message alleging that the party was planning a protest over the worsening insecurity in the country.
In a statement signed by the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate and former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NDC described the message as false and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard it.
Kwankwaso said the party does not support any action capable of causing a breakdown of law and order or leading to the destruction of lives and property.
According to him, the NDC remains committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing the nation’s challenges.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” the statement read.
The former governor stressed that the party believes strongly in democratic processes and the power of the ballot box as the legitimate means of expressing grievances and effecting change.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change,” he stated.
Kwankwaso expressed confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the forthcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.
He also warned against the spread of false information, advising Nigerians to ignore individuals spreading disinformation aimed at misleading the public.
“The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation,” the statement added.
