The Nigerian Army, top government officials, and the entire Bassa-Nge Kingdom on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, paid glowing tributes as the remains of late Brigadier General Abu Ali (Rtd), former Military Administrator of Bauchi State and the revered Etsu Bassa-Nge, were laid to rest in Gboloko Bassa, Kogi State.
The highly respected officer and traditional ruler, celebrated for his unwavering service, integrity and commitment to national unity, was interred according to Islamic rites in an atmosphere filled with grief and reverence.
In his tribute, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, condoled with the family and described the late General as a symbol of professionalism and moral fortitude in the Nigerian Army.
“Brigadier General Abu Ali was a beacon of honour, a pillar of military ethics, and a leader whose selfless dedication to the Nigerian Army will continue to inspire generations,” the COAS said.
Also speaking, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ododo, represented by the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), extolled the virtues of the late traditional ruler, noting that his reign was marked by unity, progress and development.
He said the passing of the Etsu Bassa-Nge was a significant loss to the state and the nation at large, describing him as a leader who devoted his life to the peace and advancement of his people.
The funeral attracted senior military officers, traditional rulers, government officials and members of the Bassa-Nge community, all united in honouring a man whose legacy continues to resonate across Nigeria.
