Mrs. Modupeola Victoria Wuraola Salami, the mother of former Oyo State Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, has died at the age of 79.
According to the family, Mrs. Salami passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
She was born on March 22, 1947, to the family of Pa Emmanuel and Mama Janet Falade of Losare Compound, Igbajo, in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State.
She began her education at Baptist Day School, Igbajo, where she studied between 1953 and 1959, before proceeding to Local Authority Modern School, now Community High School, Igbajo, from 1961 to 1963.
Mrs. Salami worked as a clerk with a mercantile company between 1964 and 1965 before joining the Western Nigeria Development Corporation (WNDC) as a rubber tapper from 1966 to 1967. In October 1967, during the Nigerian Civil War, she enlisted in the Nigerian Police Force.
She later trained as a secretary at the Western Nigeria Civil Service Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan, in 1968. In 1969, she married fellow police officer, the late Chief Moshood Salami, and left the Police Force in 1971 to devote herself to raising her family. She subsequently worked as a secretary with Benfobil Constructions West Africa Limited from 1974 to 1979 before becoming self-employed.
A committed Christian throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Salami has been described her as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and community leader whose life was marked by service, compassion, and unwavering Christian faith.
Mrs Modupe Salami is survived by her children, including Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at the University of Ibadan and Mrs Gbemisola Beyioku, Permanent Secretary and Tutor-General for the Oyo State Post-Primary School Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Ogbomoso Zone, grandchildren, and other members of the family, Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
