Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reportedly settled for Bimbo Adekanmbi, a former Commissioner for Finance under late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development, which is already generating intense political debate across the state, also includes the endorsement of Dhikirulah Stanley Adedeji, Shina Abiola Peller, and Ajadi Olufemi Oguntoyinbo as senatorial flagbearers for Oyo South, Oyo North, and Oyo Central, respectively.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Michael Ogunshina, confirmed the governor’s decision, noting that the move followed a series of strategic consultations with key stakeholders within the party.
According to Ogunshina, the endorsements reflect internal alignments ahead of the next election cycle, even though Governor Makinde has yet to make an official public pronouncement on the matter.
“Yes, it is confirmed. The governor has announced him,” Ogunshina stated.
The reported endorsements have sparked fresh reactions within both the ruling PDP and opposition parties, with analysts suggesting that the move could reshape political alliances and succession dynamics in the state as preparations for 2027 gradually gather momentum.
