The Inspector General of Police in Nigeria, Dr Kayode Egbetokun has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence in Osun State, which has led to the destruction of property and the tragic loss of innocent lives, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in a statement signed by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Police Public Relations Officer equally assured of restoring peace and order in the affected areas.
Consequently, Egbetokun ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State, saying that the move is aimed to bolster security efforts and prevent further unrest in the state.
He said, “The police recognize that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the wellbeing of the citizens. We are fully committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these acts, ensuring they face the full weight of the law.”
The Nigeria Police Force issued a stern warning to individuals or groups attempting to disrupt peace and stability in Osun State emphasising that lawlessness, hooliganism, and acts of anarchy would not be tolerated, and security operatives would ensure that perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
The IGP urged the citizens to remain calm as security forces work tirelessly to restore normalcy.
He also called on Osun State indigenes, community leaders, and stakeholders to shun violence and continue with their lawful activities without fear.
In Addition, he reminded political actors and citizens that the judiciary remains the final arbiter in electoral disputes, and all parties must respect its rulings while upholding democratic principles and the rule of law.
Reaffirming their dedication to preventing further violence, the the IGP assured that they would continue to monitor the situation closely and enforce necessary measures to ensure a safe environment for all residents.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining law and order, clamping down on any individuals or groups attempting to incite chaos, and ensuring that Osun State returns to peace and stability.
