At least six worshippers were kidnapped in a pre-dawn attack on a Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, on Wednesday, February 25.
According to reports, armed assailants entered the church around 1 a.m. while a service was underway, seizing the victims and taking them to an undisclosed location.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a message to journalists in Akure. He stated that police officers, together with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, have been deployed to the area in a coordinated effort to rescue the abducted worshippers.
In reaction to the attack, residents of Uso blocked the Owo–Akure Expressway in protest, causing severe traffic disruption and leaving motorists stranded as they demanded swift action from security agencies.
Authorities continue to appeal for information from anyone who might help locate the victims while the ongoing rescue operation progresses.
