The immediate past Director of the Distance Learning Centre (DLC), University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale, has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor, West Midlands University Open University, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Council West Midlands Open University, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, the appointment is for a term of five years,
Omobowale, 57, holds the degrees of B.A. in English with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), M.A. in Literature in English, Ph.D in Literature in English from the University of Ibadan and M.A. in Bioethics from the Case Western Reserve University Cleveland.
He was awarded the Departmental Prize for Literature as the best graduating student in his set.
He joined the University of Ibadan as Assistant Lecturer in May 1995 and through a dint of hard work, seminal publications and mentorship of his students he rose rapidly through the ranks to the grade of Professor, effective 1st October 2010.
He is the first Nigerian Professor of Literature and Medicine.
He has published over 50 sole authored articles in books and reputable journals as well as a number of articles with his students and professional colleagues.
He has successfully supervised 21 Doctoral theses, 60 Master dissertations and over 130 Bachelor Projects.
His cognate administrative experience at the University of Ibadan comprises Head Department of English from 2012 to 2017 and Director Distance Learning Centre from 2020 to 2026.
Professor Omobowale brings to the new position his integrity, wealth of experience, hard work, transparency and honesty that have made him such a successful Scholar-Adminstrator throughout his career.
Olayinka, the 12th Vice Chancellor of the nation’s Premier University, said, “We wish him a successful tenure as the Vice-Chancellor at West Midlands Open University Ikeja.”
