The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered an illegal oil refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in Ogere, Ogun State.
The facility was raided on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following investigations into its suspected illegal operations.
However, EFCC operatives reportedly found the premises deserted on arrival, with no suspects arrested during the operation.
The commission said its operatives discovered underground storage tanks containing substances suspected to be diesel within the facility.
Preliminary investigations indicated that sludge oil was transported from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to the facility for processing.
The EFCC has since taken over the premises as investigations continue to identify those behind the operation and track down the owners of the illegal refinery.
The commission is also working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the facility’s operations and the identities of the alleged Chinese operators.
