A seasoned Nigerian actor, Samson Folarin, has opened up on one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life, revealing how he lost his child while performing in a stage play far from home.
Speaking during a one-on-one media chat, the actor, popularly known as “Kukute” and “Esu Lalu”, said the tragic incident occurred during a theatre engagement in Ekiti State. He was invited to the performance by actor Ojo Daramola, popularly called Egbeji, who was the first to act as Fadeyi in a theatre performance
Folarin explained that while he was performing in one of the halls, he received devastating news from home about the death of his child. Despite the emotional turmoil, he said he was unable to leave immediately due to his professional obligations.
According to him, he remained on set and completed the performance before stepping behind the curtain, where the weight of the loss overwhelmed him.
“I could not go home immediately because I had to finish what I was doing,” he said.
Highlighting a moment of joy, Folarin said one of the happiest days of his life was when he bought his first car, a Bluebird, describing it as a major personal milestone.
On the impact of technology, the actor praised social media as a transformative tool for entertainers, noting that it has become even more effective than traditional television platforms.
He stated, “Social media is God-sent to actors and actresses,” explaining how it has helped him stay relevant and financially stable.
He narrated how a chance encounter on a movie set in Oyo State changed his fortunes. According to him, a man who had been observing him later approached him, engaged him in conversation, and eventually requested his contact details.
Weeks later, the man sent him N150,000 to buy a mobile phone, a gesture that Folarin said became a turning point in his career. With the phone, he began creating content for online platforms, which has since provided him with a steady source of income.
The actor also spoke about his spiritual journey, revealing how he became a pastor in a white garment church.
He recounted a dramatic experience during a church service at the Cherubim and Seraphim, where he was unexpectedly dragged to the altar by a worshipper in a trance and subsequently announced for spiritual service.
