The leadership of the Oyo State Volunteers, a coalition group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the party’s recently concluded primary elections.
The group made its position known after a meeting held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Ibadan, where members reviewed the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and Presidential primaries conducted by the party.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Oyo State Volunteers commended the ADC for adopting the direct primary system, describing the process as democratic and reflective of the wishes of party members.
The group specifically lauded the leadership of the party in the state, passing a vote of confidence on the Oyo State Chairman of the ADC, Hon. Afeez Adelowo, for what it described as his impartial and transparent handling of the primary election process.
According to the communiqué, members of the group were particularly pleased with the outcomes of both the governorship and presidential primaries, which produced Chief Taofeeq Adegboyega Adegoke as the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State and former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential flagbearer.
The group also distanced itself from allegations of irregularities and malpractice reportedly being circulated by some individuals concerning the conduct of the primaries in the state.
“We dissociate the Oyo State Volunteers from the unfounded allegations of malpractices being peddled by some disgruntled elements on the just concluded primaries in the state,” the communiqué stated.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the party, the Oyo State Volunteers pledged continued support for the growth and development of the ADC at both the state and national levels.
The group expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming general elections and vowed to work with other stakeholders to ensure electoral success.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the Oyo State Chairman of the group, Hon. Wale Afolabi, alongside state leaders Hon. Taiwo Ibrahim, Hon. Akinwumi Akinfewa, and Mogaji Sulaimon.
