Nigerian-British Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Mark Olabanji Olayinka Orabiyi, popularly known as Talay Riley, has died following a fatal stabbing incident in Silvertown, East London.
The tragic attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Friday on Pankhurst Avenue. Emergency responders were called to the scene and later discovered the 35-year-old musician suffering from severe stab wounds in a nearby garden on Rayleigh Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Talay Riley’s death was confirmed by his family in a statement shared via the Instagram account, @Queencleo. The family described the loss as an “overwhelming sadness” and paid tribute to the late singer, whose influence extended across the global music industry.
Throughout his successful career, Riley earned recognition for writing and contributing to several chart-topping songs for major international artists. His credits include Chipmunk’s UK number-one hit “Oopsy Daisy,” as well as songs recorded by global stars such as Dua Lipa, Usher, and Britney Spears.
News of his death sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and fellow artists around the world. Many remembered him not only for his musical achievements but also for his kindness and character.
Among those paying tribute was British rapper and singer Stormzy, who expressed his grief in a comment on social media, writing: “I’m sorry bro.”
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing are ongoing.
