The Federal Government has withdrawn its eight-count criminal case against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as the Director-General of a purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, paving the way for his fresh arraignment before another court in Abuja.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, struck out the charge on Monday, October 12, 2026, after the prosecution requested the termination of the proceedings.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and the original charge instituted by the Inspector-General of Police.
According to Oyedepo, the review identified legal issues in the charge, including questions concerning the appropriate court to handle the alleged offences arising from documents Adeyemi was accused of forging while operating the purported agency.
He explained that the alleged offences were considered more appropriately triable by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that the government intended to arraign Adeyemi again without delay.
Oyedepo consequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge to allow the prosecution to proceed before the court it considered to have the appropriate jurisdiction.
Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu (SAN), did not oppose the application. The judge subsequently struck out the case.
The development brings the proceedings before the Federal High Court to an end but does not amount to an acquittal on the allegations, as the government intends to pursue the case through a fresh arraignment.
Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial in case number FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants identified only as Femi and Anu, both of whom were said to be at large.
The original eight-count charge bordered on conspiracy and forgery over the alleged operation of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The Federal Government’s planned fresh arraignment before the FCT High Court is expected to determine the next stage of the prosecution.
