The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) Plc over alleged money laundering reporting violations involving transactions worth N582.43 million.
The company was arraigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside its director, Zavyalov Dmitry, who was said to be at large.
The defendants face a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025 over their alleged failure to report specified financial transactions to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), as required by law.
According to the EFCC, the alleged offences occurred between March and July 2024 and involved transfers from an account operated by ALSCON Plc to three beneficiaries.
The commission alleged that the company and its director failed to submit written reports to SCUML on several single transfers, contrary to Section 11(1)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The transactions listed in the charge include N147.52 million paid to Udatson Nigeria in March 2024 and N156.03 million transferred to the same beneficiary in April.
Another N121.43 million was allegedly transferred to Udatson Nigeria in May, while a further N127.34 million was paid to the company in July 2024.
The charge also listed a transfer of N15.12 million to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and N15 million paid to an individual, Christopher Azogu, in June of the same year.
The first count specifically alleged that ALSCON Plc and Dmitry failed to report a single transfer of N147,515,050 to Udatson Nigeria in March 2024. The second count concerned an alleged failure to report a separate transfer of N156,026,860 to the same beneficiary in April.
A further count cited an alleged failure to report the N121,425,200 transfer to Udatson Nigeria in May 2024.
The prosecution said the alleged violations contravened the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, with the charge citing Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the legislation.
The EFCC’s case centres on the alleged failure to report the transactions as required under the law; the allegations do not, by themselves, establish that the funds were proceeds of crime.
The case was brought against ALSCON Plc, described in the charge as a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession (DNFBP), and its director, Dmitry.
Further proceedings are expected to determine the allegations against the defendants.
