The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has urged politicians to prioritise issue-based campaigns and shun misinformation, false allegations and personal attacks ahead of elections.
The guild said political parties and candidates should focus on presenting their policies, development agendas and practical solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians.
In a statement signed by its Acting Chairman, Chief Tunde Busari, and Publicity Secretary, Mr Remi Oladoye, SWEGOP stressed that the electorate deserved campaigns that would enable them to assess candidates based on their competence, programmes and capacity to deliver good governance.
It warned that spreading unverified claims could erode public trust and undermine the credibility of the democratic process.
The guild, therefore, called on political actors to adopt responsible communication and engage in constructive discussions that would encourage peaceful political participation.
Meanwhile, SWEGOP has called on the government to declare a state of emergency on road infrastructure following widespread damage caused by rainfall.
The organisation expressed concern over the condition of roads in several areas, noting that some had been washed away or become impassable, making transportation difficult for motorists and other road users.
It urged the relevant authorities to move swiftly to repair damaged roads, improve drainage infrastructure and introduce sustainable measures to protect roads against further deterioration, especially during the rainy season.
According to the guild, urgent intervention is necessary to prevent avoidable risks to lives, improve mobility and minimise disruptions to businesses and other economic activities.
SWEGOP also advocated a coordinated government response to the crisis, stressing that temporary repairs alone would not be sufficient without long-term planning, effective drainage systems and sustained investment in road infrastructure.
