The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 24-year-old man, Iziga Ikechukwu, popularly known as “Easy-money,” over the alleged abuse of naira notes during his birthday celebration.
The anti-graft agency disclosed the arrest in a statement shared on its official X account on Thursday.
According to the commission, Ikechukwu, a palm kernel dealer, was apprehended by operatives of its Enugu Zonal Directorate after actionable intelligence linked him to a viral video circulating on social media.
In the video, the suspect allegedly recorded himself abusing naira notes in his hotel room during the birthday celebration, an act said to contravene Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act of 2007.
The EFCC stated that a preliminary investigation was launched immediately after the intelligence was received, leading to the identification and eventual arrest of the suspect.
“He was arrested on February 28 at his residence around Timber Market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State,” the statement said.
Operatives also recovered the sum of N81,700, suspected to be part of the money allegedly mutilated during the celebration.
The commission added that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
