The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Sierra Leonean, Favour Foday Kamara, before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over an alleged $190,324 fraud involving a 70-year-old United States-based Sierra Leonean woman, Henrietta Vandi.
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, on a two-count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion of funds.
The defendant, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, appeared before Justice O. A. Okunuga.
According to the EFCC, Vandi alleged that she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020, after which he encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.
The commission said investigations revealed that Vandi allegedly sent money to Kamara through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash transfers into his Access Bank account for the purchase and renovation of a property at 30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
However, further investigations allegedly showed that the property was purchased in Kamara’s name and that he resides there and collects rent from tenants.
Following the conclusion of its investigation, the EFCC filed a two-count charge against the defendant over the alleged conversion of $190,324 belonging to Vandi.
One of the counts accused Kamara of dishonestly converting the money to his personal use between August 2021 and February 2025 in Lagos.
The charge cited Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Following the defendant’s plea, prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand Kamara in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, for further proceedings and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Kamara’s plea of not guilty means the allegations remain to be proved in court.
