The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has secured the commitment of the Qatar Foundation to support Nigeria’s efforts in providing quality education for Almajiri and over 15 million out-of-school children across the country.
This followed a high-level meeting between Senator Tinubu and the Founder and Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation, Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al-Missned, held in Doha, Qatar.
In a statement released after the meeting, the Qatar Foundation pledged to collaborate closely with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education in implementing a comprehensive educational programme aimed at integrating both Islamic and formal education.
According to details of the initiative, the new school model will combine religious and conventional curricula while offering a safe and conducive learning environment.
Each school will include boarding facilities, a mosque, and centres dedicated to vocational and skills acquisition training.
Sheikha Moza also assured that the Qatar Foundation would work directly with the Ministry of Education, with a particular focus on training teachers and handlers to ensure effective management of the new schools.
The partnership is expected to play a significant role in reducing the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria while promoting inclusive education and human capital development.
