A 63-year-old man, Akin Aderiye, has been remanded in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, did not take the plea of Aderiye for lack of jurisdiction.
The magistrate advised the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until March 21, 2022 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the Aderiye sexually assaulted the eight-year-old girl on February 10, 2022 in Esure-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
He said the minor told the police that the suspect lured her to his house on the pretense that he would give her some money.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal.
