President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and admirers of the legendary highlife musician and folklorist, Mike Ejeagha, who passed away on Friday at the age of 95.
In a statement released by the presidency, President Tinubu described the late musician as one of Nigeria’s greatest folklorists, songwriters, and a prominent voice in the preservation and projection of Igbo culture through music and storytelling.
“Mike Ejeagha used his music and distinctive storytelling style to preserve and project Igbo culture and customs, inspiring generations,” the President noted.
Ejeagha, fondly called “Gentleman Mike,” was celebrated for his rich lyrical compositions, steeped in proverbs and moral lessons, which earned him widespread respect across Nigeria and beyond.
Reflecting on the enduring impact of the musician’s work, President Tinubu said, “May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation.”
The President also commended the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, for recognizing and honouring the music icon during his lifetime.
President Tinubu concluded by praying for the repose of the departed’s soul and asking God Almighty to comfort all who mourn his loss.
