Traditional rulers are behind the bandit's acts in the Northnditry — Presidency

Shehu Garba

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappTelegram the story

The Presidency has given part of the major reasons for high banditry activities in Nigeria, alleging that some traditional rulers in the North are sponsoring the dare-devil group.

According to the Spokesperson to the Presidency, Shehu Garba, the suspension of some traditional rulers in Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s state and its neighbour, Zamfara in connection with the banditry acts is a welcome development.

According to information gathered, Zamfara State Government has suspended the Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar CIKA Ibrahim and the District Head of Kanoma town, Alhaji Ahmed Lawal for their alleged involvement in armed banditry activities.

Garba in his twitter page stated that in a television interaction, he “referred to cases of some low level traditional rulers in Katsina State and the neighboring Zamfara where more of such leaders including Emirs were flushed out of the system for being found to be in unholy alliances with bandits”.

According to him, “If someone is merely a headline reader, he/she might have wrong impression, from what is being reported by the digital press, that the entirety of the traditional institution in Katsina is complicit in the episode. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

“Under the leadership of their Highnesses, the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, traditional rulers in the state have continued to support security and law enforcement agencies in tackling the problems of kidnapping and banditry that reared their heads in the state.

“Many of them have indeed paid the supreme price for doing their duty to their people, the state and the nation. May their souls Rest in Peace.

When, however, a few bad eggs are discovered and made an example of, as is bound to happen, that is to show good leadership by the Emirs, who sit on top of the pack and the state governments”.

However, reactions have started trailing the position of the Presidency as some Nigerians took to the social media to allege the presidency of giving excuses for its inability to manage a country, saying that the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government at the federal level has failed the nation.

Some of the commentators on Twitter said:

*Morale Vitae @EdwardIdiege – “Government have nothing to do. They were not ready to take over power. Buhari’s Nepotism has kept us where we are”.

*Amina Mohammed @aminamohdyola – “Laughable… Tell your principal to do the needful. Simple”.

*Major general bazo @Ibnbazo – “One thing that saddens most is that, The gov of katsina went to the forest and pay this people money so that they won’t attack. How can you negotiate with people you know weee they came from?”

*[email protected] @Easyjet77 – “Nigerians re feed up with talks, match your words with action, don’t forget what your master Buhari promised Nigerians! Since you guys came to power the insecurity has deteriorated to the lowest level! This government has failed”.

*Abu-Bakr Jabbi @AbuJabbi – “…We await Wadume’s issue….”

*Elder 1010 @mni_J – “May Allah guide you to do the right thing. Our prayers are with you”.

*Ikechukwu @ikechukwu_bobo – “Pls my prayers is for me and family and every well meaning Nigerian not this evil people that tell lies to endanger to our lives and enrich their pockets. They should start saying the truth and do the right things. Wicked people”.

*Graced @GracedUp1 – “The same “low level traditional rulers” were important when they worked for the emergence of your boss. Why don’t you tell them/the world what you have done/doing to address the issues raised to debunk their claims instead of resulting to attacks like you and Femi always do?”

*Muh’d A. Bappah @Waxeeree1 – “I will never forget buhari and his government if this killings continue till end of his tenure.. We trusted him and in return he surrendered our trust to some dubious elements who continue to betray our trust under his watch.M.Garba better tell him the truth that Nig is bleeding”.

*ubaleyaro @AbdullahiInuwa – “It’s all double jeopardy for the traditional rulers cooperate with government and lose your life to bandits or cooperate with the bandits and become a saboteur”.

*Abushuaib @Abushua00895680 – “Sir with due respect u have to fear God bcoz u people knw who are behind these killing stop spreading fake news here pls and u will soon knw the effects of this kiling if they touch your family”

*Mazi Nzeako @Ikepicano _ “This administration is built on blame lies and hypocrisy..i am shocked like PMB that this destruction of life and properties is not termed the 16years of PDP ruling Nigeria…the blame has shifted to traditional rulers..whos next to blame???

*Daniel @danbosket26 – “I know you guys must look for whom to blame Last time it was COVID 19 Now it’s Traditional rulers Una no dey tire to blame?”

*The Gbadamosi Voice @9jamuncher – “How many bandits are in law courts right now to serve as deterrents to others? That’s the most important thing you should tell us instead of all these unwanted semantics”.

*Emeka Alaribe @AlaribeEmeka – “They don’t take them to court, they make pact with them, which they violate later on”.

*Roque @ahmadshehu283 – “This government is my last hope and i am greatly disappointed”
