Oyo State Police Commissioner, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwowu has paraded a 24 years old suspect, Shagbada Erigga, who allegedly killed a 30 year old mother of three, Happiness Winfred at Oritoke Area Ojoo Ibadan, of Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State.
The suspect was among 33 suspected criminals arrested and paraded today at the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Erigga confessed that he killed Happiness saying, “the killing was not intentional. The late Happiness was my girlfriend. We have been dating for long but she always denies me sex. She would not allow me to have sex with her whenever I feel like having it. On the day she died, we were bathing together and I asked her why she has refused to let me have sex with her. Rather than giving me explanation, she started shouting and raising her voice at me. I got angry and I slapped her. She slapped me back to my greatest surprise. Then, I gave her three blows at her mouth and the fourth at her neck. All of a sudden, she fell and died”.
“When I discovered that she has died, I quickly carried her corpse and threw her inside a well in my compound. I did this because I was afraid and I did not want people to suspect that I have killed somebody. Few days later, my neighbour, who wanted to fetch water discovered her corpse and reported the case to the police. This was what led to my arrest”, he added.
Earlier, while briefing the press, CP Enwowu stated that the suspect was arrested following a complaint that was received at Ojoo Police Station Ibadan from one Agu Benson, who had on 25 June, 2020 at about 7am lodged a complaint to the police that she saw a corpse inside a well of her compound.
He said, “The detailed investigations by the police led to the arrest of Shagbada Erigga who happens to be neighbours of Agu Benson. Happiness Winfred left her house on Sunday 21, June 2020 but was later found dead inside a well on 25th of June, 2020 inside a Compound at Oritoke Area, Ojoo, Ibadan. However, since the Suspect Criminal has confessed to the crime, he will soon be charged to Court for proper trial”.
It would be recalled that Akinyele local government has been in the news recently for a series of murders and rape incidence.
