The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, has arraigned two individuals for alleged involvement in separate fraud cases totaling over N40 million.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the anti-graft agency arraigned a lawyer, Victor Azubike Awah, before Justice O. A. Okunuga of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, over an alleged N27 million land fraud.
Awah, alongside his company, Sparkan Ives Limited, is facing a six-count charge bordering on stealing, obtaining money by false pretence, using false documents, and issuance of dud cheques.
According to one of the counts, Awah allegedly obtained N27 million from Onwuekwe Chioma Genevieve under the false pretext of selling a plot of land between October 2024 and February 2025, a claim the EFCC said he knew to be false.
The charge contravenes Section 1(1) and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.
Awah pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following the plea, EFCC counsel A. M. Dambuwa requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant. Awah, who represented himself in court, was ordered to be remanded in EFCC custody.
Justice Okunuga adjourned the matter to December 17 and 18, 2025, for hearing on the bail application and commencement of trial.
In a related development, on Friday, October 24, 2025, the same EFCC office arraigned Martins Morakinyo before Justice R. A. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, over an alleged N13.2 million fraud.

Martins Morakinyo
Morakinyo was charged on a three-count charge of stealing, obtaining property by false pretence, and conspiracy to steal.
The EFCC alleged that Morakinyo, trading as Refined Edge Concept, and one Tope Afolabi (still at large), dishonestly converted N13,283,750, property of Jawo Technologies and Innovative Solutions Limited, in 2024.
He also pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecution counsel A. A. Usman prayed for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded, while defense counsel B. J. Fayemi sought a date to file a bail application.
Justice Oshodi adjourned the case to November 7, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application, and December 9 and 12, 2025, for trial.
The judge ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maximum Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos pending the determination of his bail application.
