The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abraham Idowu Abiara before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over an alleged $626,282 fraud involving the dishonest conversion of funds.
Abiara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, Ikoyi, before Justice Ismail Ijelu on a one-count charge bordering on stealing and dishonest conversion.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly dishonestly converted the sum of $626,282 to his personal use on or about September 2, 2015, in Lagos.
The alleged offence was brought under Section 280(2) and is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Abiara pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, C. C. Okezie, urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility and fix a date for further proceedings.
Justice Ijelu adjourned the case until October 26, 2026, for the hearing of the defendant’s bail application, with trial proceedings also expected to commence.
The allegation against Abiara remains to be proved in court.
