The Dangote Refinery has announced it will commence its much-anticipated free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, beginning in Lagos before extending to the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States.
According to Dangote Group spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, the initiative is designed to bring relief to millions of Nigerians by easing the cost of fuel and stimulating economic activity.
“We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will begin with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective Monday when the distribution starts,” Chiejina stated.
Ahead of the rollout, the refinery announced a price reduction, fixing petrol at N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, and N851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta.
To support the programme, over 1,000 trucks have been received, with more expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The refinery has also embarked on a large-scale deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to strengthen logistics and reduce costs.
“Even though we recently noticed how the CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year,” the company said, stressing its commitment to affordable and sustainable fuel distribution.
Originally slated for August but delayed due to logistics challenges in China, the free fuel scheme is now set to begin, underscoring Dangote’s pledge to ease the financial burden on Nigerians.
