Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci’s giant jollof rice pot collapsed in dramatic fashion during her record attempt at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The incident occurred after the massive pot had been used to serve thousands of attendees following more than eight hours of cooking.
Videos circulating online showed Baci and her team dishing out steaming plates of rice from the pot, which was filled with 200 bags of jollof rice. Despite the collapse while the pot was being hoisted for weighing, organisers confirmed that no injuries were recorded.
One viral clip filmed around 4 a.m. captured the festive atmosphere as onlookers exclaimed, “200 bags of rice no be anybody mate!” and “Hilda Baci is feeding Lagos.”
The event, described as a festival of Nigerian jollof, drew a huge crowd of Gen Zers, millennials, food lovers, and celebrities.
Baci, who gained international recognition in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, said her goal this time is to showcase Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.
