World-renowned British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer and former unified world champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a fatal road traffic accident on on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Makun, Ogun State, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when the vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua collided with another vehicle under circumstances that are still being investigated. Two people were confirmed dead at the scene.
In a joint statement issued by the Ogun and Lagos State Governments, authorities confirmed that the vehicle, conveying a team of four, reportedly crashed into a stationary truck, resulting in the fatalities.
The statement expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a tragic loss, and assured the public that investigations into the cause of the crash have commenced.
Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos. Following comprehensive medical evaluations, doctors confirmed that both individuals are stable and do not require emergency medical intervention at this time. A full medical team has been assembled to continue monitoring their condition.
Officials also confirmed that Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family.
The statement was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information to the Ogun State Government, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information in Lagos State.
In another report, it was gathered that the two persons who lost their lives were Anthony Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, Sina Evolve Ghami, and a close friend and personal trainer, Abdul Lateef, popularly known as Healthy Mindset.

The two men had reportedly arrived in Nigeria to spend the Christmas holiday with the former heavyweight champion and were said to have spent time together earlier in the day before the tragic incident.
The loss has sent shockwaves through the global boxing community, with tributes already pouring in for the deceased.
Authorities have appealed for privacy for Anthony Joshua and the affected families as investigations continue.
