Operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining of the Zamfara State Police Command, yesterday, arrested Mustapha Mohammad (38), a suspect in connection with unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.
Mohammad was arrested while driving a Toyota Corolla.
According to a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials, concealed in polyethylene bags.
The statement stated, “Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered materials are suspected to have been intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).”
It reads further: “The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed analysis.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the recovered materials, as well as to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the crime.”
