Aishatu Umar, a resident of Kano and sister-in-law to Abubakar Muhammed, tragically passed away early yesterday at around 1:00 AM. She is survived by her husband and five children.
According to accounts shared by Muhammed on social media, Umar fell ill several months ago and underwent surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center in September. Following the operation, she reportedly suffered severe abdominal pain, which persisted for four months. Hospital visits during this period only resulted in pain relief medication being administered.
Just two days ago, further tests and scans allegedly revealed that a pair of surgical scissors had been left inside her body during the initial procedure. Attempts were reportedly being made to perform corrective surgery yesterday, but Umar’s condition deteriorated, and she passed away before it could be carried out.
Muhammed described the incident as “pure negligence,” emphasising the impact on the reputation of healthcare workers and health authorities. He has called on the Kano State Government and relevant health regulatory bodies to investigate the case and take appropriate action, seeking justice for Umar.
