Traders have apprehended a woman believed to be in her 50s at a market in Osun State over an alleged case of fraud involving fake bank transfer alerts.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested in an unidentified market after a video of the incident went on social media platforms, including TikTok and X.
Social media user Samto Okonkwo shared the video.
People surrounded the suspect, chanting “thief” as she was restrained. Despite appeals from some members of the public to avoid violence, the situation briefly turned chaotic before she was subdued.
Information gathered revealed that the suspect allegedly defrauded a trader of N350,000 in November 2025 by presenting a fake transfer alert as payment for goods purchased.
Reports further stated that on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the woman returned to the same market and allegedly attempted a similar scam, believing she would not be recognised. She was, however, identified by traders, leading to her arrest.
