The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Esther Dosunmu for allegedly stabbing her herbalist lover, Suliaman Okeleye, resulting in his death. She claimed that the act was not intentional but happened in self-defense during a violent altercation.
Esther recounted that during a fight, she grabbed the knife that Suliaman had threatened her with and stabbed him in the chest, leading to his untimely death. The tragic incident took place in Ibogun Ifo, Ogun State.
While narrating the events, Esther, who alleged she had been a victim of domestic violence at the hands of the deceased, revealed that she is a mother of two children, aged five and two. The children were fathered by her estranged husband.
According to her, she had left her husband and children behind and moved to Lagos in search of a job, which she eventually secured. At her workplace, she began a relationship with a man who had promised to marry her. However, in an attempt to determine his true character, she sought the services of a herbalist in Ibogun Ifo, asking him to consult the oracle on her behalf.
After performing the ritual, the herbalist informed her that the oracle had revealed the man was not right for her. Following this, she ended up in a relationship with the herbalist himself and eventually moved in with him. “I can’t explain how I ended up living in his house as his wife,” she admitted.
Esther described the deceased as an alcoholic who frequently became aggressive when drunk. She recalled an incident where he returned from a party intoxicated and started causing trouble. “He wouldn’t let me sleep or leave the house. He was holding a cutlass and an iron rod, threatening to harm me. I managed to escape to a neighbor’s house, and they later intervened to calm him down. We eventually went to bed around 4 a.m.,” she said.
The next morning, another argument ensued when she attempted to step out of the house. “He blocked the door with his legs, and when I moved them aside, he followed me outside and started beating me. The night before, he had placed a knife beside him while he slept. As he continued hitting me, he said that if he killed me, no one would question him because my family did not know about him,” she recounted.
Fearing for her life, she acted in self-defense. “One thing led to another, and I grabbed the same knife he had been threatening me with. In the heat of the struggle, I stabbed him,” she concluded.
