A Nigerian veteran actor, dramatist, and scholar, Dr Kola Oyewo has revealed that his two testicles have been surgically removed in the cause of treating his enlarged prostate.

Oyewo, who revealed this to Kunle Afod in an exclusive interview said that he is now impotent, reiterating that he could not have sex again in life.

He said though he was sick for some time with an enlarged prostate, he is now healthy. He added that his wife was also down with a stroke for many years.

The veteran actor said, “I was sick. I have an enlarged prostate. I know of six people it has killed: my friend who was the neighbour that helped me buy the land that I use to build my house in Ile-Ife, my friend, Sheba, my church friend, Olawande, and Oke, among others.”

Shedding light on the history of his prostate, Oyewo said, “I am a strong person and l could do anything until July 29, 2019. Initially, l was having a problem to pee. l was even peeing on my body. This made me go to the hospital. After conducting a test on me, they said l have an enlarged prostate and it is blocking where l am peeing. I drove from Ilara Mokin where l work, and l branched at my hospital to see my family doctor. He asked me to go and do a test at Fajuyi Ado Ekiti. I was given two sachets of pure water to drink. Afterward, l was made to lie down and they did a scan on me. When the result came out, the doctor sealed it up, and gave it to me to go and give it to my doctor.”

He continued, “My doctor attended to me at his small hospital at Aladanla. After seeing the result, my doctor took me to his major hospital in Abayagani. When we got to the hospital, something was inserted into my penis, l cried and cried throughout the time the procedure lasted. After that, the doctor told me that he had to carry out an operation on me. I was told to go and tell my family that l needed to go through an operation. My wife was sick. She has a stroke at the time. I told her l don’t know who will die first. I kissed her and she broke into tears. I also cried. She has stroke since 2017.

He stated further, “I returned to the hospital, and l was operated on, after which I was given a urinary catheter for peeing. This is the bag I am carrying about. I was told that the first operation was to prevent me from immediate death. They said the prostate drains blood and my blood was so small. I was told the next operation would not allow me to perform again. I asked them to do it. What will I do with sex? I have given birth to children and l have grandchildren. I was given an appointment. I went and I was wheeled into the theatre and they removed my “epon” (testicles). They said the testicles supply sperm. It is the storing home for sperm. They put my testicles in a tin and they gave it to Wale (my son). My “epon” (testicles) was removed on September 4.”

“After that, I was asked to go to Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital for another test. During the test, life was almost sniffed out of me. If l had known that l would not be able to pee with my penis after the operation that was done for me, l wouldn’t have done the operation. It was tough. They were inserting things into my penis, and blood was coming out from my penis. l was shouting Jesus. If you see my clothes and car, it was wet with blood. Unfortunately, when the result came out, it stated that where I used to urinate is still blocking and l have to do another major operation. At this point, I refused to do the operation again. l say that I will not do it again. I am fine carrying about the bag I am using to urinate till l die. I am fine now. I have started going to location”, he added.

Oyewo said that during his predicament, when Funke Daramola checked on him, he told her to keep what she saw to herself, and told her not to solicit for funds to take care of his medical bills as she proposed.

He also revealed during the interview on a lighter note that Peter Fatomilola, who has been his friend formally since 1973 is older than him by two months 16 days.
