The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has assured candidates seeking admission through the institution’s Open Distance eLearning mode that they will enjoy equal rights and privileges as their counterparts on the main campus.
The assurance was given on Saturday, April 11, 2026, during the First Batch Entrance Examination of the University’s Distance Learning Centre (DLC) for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Addressing prospective students at the examination venue, the Vice Chancellor emphasised that the university remains committed to inclusivity and academic excellence across all modes of study. He reiterated that students admitted through the distance learning platform would not be disadvantaged in any way, stressing that the institution maintains uniform standards and opportunities for all its students.

While welcoming the candidates, Prof. Adebowale highlighted the three core pillars upon which the university is built – excellence, integrity, and service – urging the applicants to uphold these values throughout their academic journey. He described the University of Ibadan as a “home of giants,” noting its long-standing tradition of producing distinguished individuals across various fields.
He pointed to the achievements of notable alumni, including Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, as well as several Nobel Prize nominees, leading academics, and captains of industry. The Vice Chancellor also mentioned that Nigeria’s current Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is an alumnus of the institution, further underscoring its legacy of excellence.
Encouraging the candidates, he urged them to emulate these distinguished figures and maximise the opportunity that admission into the university would offer.

Earlier, the Director of the Distance Learning Centre, Professor Olufade Onifade, stated that the centre has maintained a reputation for excellence, with its alumni making significant contributions in various sectors across the globe. He assured candidates of the centre’s commitment to delivering quality education through innovative and flexible learning systems.
Also present at the examination venue to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise were key officials of the DLC, including the Deputy Director (Administration), Professor Olubukola S. Adesina; the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Olusola Dairo; the Chief Internal Auditor, Mrs. Temitope O. Olaoye, the Admissions Officer, Mrs. Adenike B. Omisore; and other members of staff.
