The Senate Members of the University of Ibadan (UI), today elected Professor Juwon Tunde Arotiba as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and Professor Simisola Oluwatoyin Akintola as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnership (RISP).
Arotiba, a Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, attended the University of Ibadan (1978 -1983) where he obtained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983. He later proceeded and obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics in our great and highly esteemed University of Ibadan in 2007.
He also holds the Fellowships of the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria in Dental Surgery (1992) and West African College of Surgeons (1997) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the International College of Dentists (2013) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) of the National Postgraduate Medical College.
Arotiba was a former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and former Senate Representative on UI’s Governing Council.
Professor Akintola is a professor of Health law at the Department of Private and Property Law, Faculty of Law. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 after which she proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and bagged her Barrister at Law in 1988.
She had a Master’s Degree in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University and another Master’s Degree in Global health law from the Georgetown University, D.C. Her Ph.D thesis on “Future unspecified use of tissue and data in biobank research” was obtained from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
Akintola was also a former Dean of the Faculty of Law and currently the Senate Representative on UI’s Governing Council
