The University of Ibadan (UI), has reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards in the accreditation of its academic programmes.
This assurance was given by the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships (RISP), Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose (SAN), during a courtesy visit by a five-man delegation from the Architecture Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON).
The ARCON team, led by Arc. Festus Fawohunre and accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Prof. O. Ipingbemi, was at the university to conduct an accreditation exercise for the Department of Architecture’s Master of Science programmes.
Other members of the team included Arc. Moyo Uthman, Prof. Olatunde Arayela, Arc. Fatai Falola, and Arc. Adeshina Amoo.
Speaking on behalf of the UI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, Professor Bamgbose emphasised that the UI views accreditation as a critical peer review mechanism aimed at enhancing the quality of academic delivery.
She highlighted that the process ensures students are well-prepared for the professional world by upholding rigorous standards in education.
Bamgbose acknowledged ARCON’s regulatory role in enforcing best practices that align with both national and international standards.
She expressed confidence in the Department of Architecture, describing it as well-equipped with the necessary resources, infrastructure, and dedicated staff committed to excellence.
Despite being relatively young, she noted that the Department of Architecture is built on a strong foundation and has consistently strived to meet accreditation standards.
Bamgbose assured the ARCON delegation of the university’s full cooperation during the appraisal process, stressing that the institution is open to recommendations that could further enhance its systems and procedures.
In his remarks, Arc. Fawohunre, explained that the compliance visit aimed to evaluate the department’s manpower, infrastructure, student training, and adherence to recommendations from previous accreditation exercises.
He noted that the appraisal would focus on assessing the department’s alignment with professional and educational standards required for the field of architecture.
