Akinmade Ifeoluwa, a 200-level medical student of the University of Ibadan (UI), has died allegedly from consuming a substance believed to be sniper.
Various students’ and medical associations, as well as individuals in the university, have condoled with the institution, particularly the University’s College of Medicine.
Confirming the death, the University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA) said, “It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother and colleague, Ifeoluwa Wisdom Akinmade, a member of the 200-level constituency. Despite every effort by the medical team who provided urgent and critical care, he has sadly left us.’
In a statement titled, ‘In loving memory of our departed brother”, and signed by the Association President, Folusho Olu-Adegbola and General Secretary, Babatunde Dauda, the Association appealed to the institution’s students to come together in a quiet reflection and hold their departed brother, his family, his close friends, and all who have known and loved him in earnest and heartfelt prayers, that they may find divine comfort, strength, and peace amid this unbearable sorrow.
In a letter titled “Statement of Solidarity and Condolence by University College Hospital Students Association (USA),” signed by its president, Lawrence Temidayo, and General Secretary, Adelakin Phebe, the letter described his passing as a profound loss not only to UIMSA but to the entire student community.
The Association, which affirmed that words often fall short in a moment like this, noted that their thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and everyone affected by the heartbreaking loss.
Alexander Brown Hall of the Premier University equally registered its condolences in a letter titled, “In Solidarity and Condolence’, signed by Hall Chairman, Olabisi Olaoluwa, saying that the sad news was a shock.
The Statement stated, “The news of his demise weighs heavily on our hearts… We pray that the Almighty grants his family the fortitude to bear this painful loss, and that his classmates and friends find solace in the legacy of moments shared.”
