On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu experienced a brief slip during a ceremonial welcome organised in his honour at a parade ground in Turkiye, an incident that momentarily drew attention but did not interrupt the official programme.
Tinubu was participating in a guard-of-honour march-past alongside his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when he stumbled.
He was promptly assisted by a number of his security details, after which proceedings continued seamlessly.
Footage of the moment, shared on X by Turkish digital media outlet Nefes Gazetesi, captured Tinubu walking with Erdogan shortly before the stumble occurred.
The formal reception, which began around 5 pm local time, featured the rendition of the national anthems of Nigeria and Turkiye, followed by a ceremonial 21-gun salute in honour of the visiting Nigerian president.
After the ceremonial rites, both presidents proceeded to a closed door bilateral meeting, where talks were expected to focus on issues of strategic importance to both countries.
