President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a strategic body created to drive the administration’s comprehensive tax reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s economic governance.
The President appointed renowned tax and financial expert Joseph Tegbe as Chairman of the committee, which has been tasked with translating newly enacted tax laws into effective and coordinated action across all tiers of government.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s activities, while the Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, Sanyade Okoli, will serve as Secretary.
The committee is composed of several seasoned professionals, including Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and other experts drawn from critical sectors of the economy.
President Tinubu said the activation of the committee reflects his administration’s commitment to building “a fair, transparent and technology-driven tax system that supports citizens, empowers businesses, and strengthens investor confidence.”
He added that the new tax laws, recently signed and gazetted, mark a pivotal step toward improving public finance management and ensuring the long-term stability of Nigeria’s revenue framework.
The NTPIC is charged with ensuring the coherent and uniform implementation of the new tax policies nationwide. Its responsibilities include:
- Coordinating inter-agency collaboration among key revenue and regulatory bodies
- Harmonising existing tax frameworks with newly enacted statutes
- Overseeing the transition process and ensuring unified reporting across institutions
- Conducting nationwide consultations with private sector leaders, civil society groups, professional associations, and state governments
- Leading public awareness campaigns to deepen citizens’ understanding of the new tax laws
A key focus will be building a reform process that is inclusive, predictable, and aligned with Nigeria’s broader economic objectives.
Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), brings over 35 years of professional experience in tax advisory, public sector reforms, and financial services.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.
In his remarks, he assured that the committee is fully prepared to deliver on its mandate and support the administration’s mission of transforming Nigeria’s tax landscape.
