President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, to commiserate with the state government and reassure families of the abducted schoolgirls that the Federal Government is taking urgent steps to secure their release.
This follows the kidnapping of students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba and several soldiers during an anti-insurgency operation in Borno State.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the President expressed deep sorrow over both incidents, describing the abduction and the loss of military personnel as “distressing and unacceptable.”
Tinubu, who has been fully briefed by military authorities, lamented that the terrorists struck despite intelligence reports warning of a possible attack.
He commended Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts taken to prevent the mass abduction.
While condemning the security breach in Kebbi, the President called for stronger cooperation between local communities and security agencies, noting that timely intelligence sharing remains critical to defeating criminal elements.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe,” he said.
Tinubu also condoled with the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers who lost their lives in Borno, praying for their comfort and honouring their sacrifice.
“I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” he said.
The President said he has ordered security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the kidnapped girls and restore calm to affected communities in Kebbi.
“I am also depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State,” Tinubu added.
He urged community leaders and citizens, especially those in security-challenged areas, to work closely with the military, police and DSS to help safeguard their communities.
