President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally submitted his first batch of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, ending months of public criticism over the absence of Nigeria’s envoys abroad.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the transmission of the list during Wednesday’s plenary, noting that it contained three names at this initial stage.
Those nominated are: Kayode Are (Ogun State), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State), and Ayodele Oke.
Akpabio, after reading the President’s letter, hinted that more names are expected, saying, “This list contains three names for now; I am sure others will follow.”
Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, has not appointed ambassadors until now, a delay that has attracted concern from diplomatic watchers and critics who say Nigeria’s foreign missions have been weakened by the leadership vacuum.
