President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, said Nigeria’s 2025 revenue target had already been achieved in August, attributing the feat to reforms aimed at stimulating the non-oil sector.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a meeting with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Tinubu said the bulk of the revenue came from non-oil sources.
“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for foreign exchange anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to obtain foreign exchange or import goods,” the President declared.
Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is firmly anchored on building critical infrastructure, improving healthcare, ensuring food sovereignty, and strengthening security.
He added that agricultural mechanisation centres would be established in all regions to expand cultivation, enhance harvests, and train farmers as part of efforts to achieve food sovereignty.
“What we need now is building the ship and the vessels for the export of our goods and creating more jobs for our people,” he said.
Reflecting on his political journey with the CPC, Tinubu described the merger that gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “a sweet memory,” pledging to immortalise the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, including the establishment of a Buhari House.
He assured the delegation that more CPC members would be given opportunities in his administration.
“Thank you for your patience until now. But first of all, we must cure the economy and bring hope to the people, which is what we stand for. Thank you for believing in me,” Tinubu told the group.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, praised the President’s vision and magnanimity, especially towards the people and government of Katsina State.
Leading the delegation, Al-Makura commended Tinubu for his participation in the burial rites of former President Buhari, describing his presence as “comforting and reassuring.”
He pledged the group’s loyalty to the administration and support for its policies.
“This is to assure you that we believe in your administration, and that will be our focus and commitment to ensure the success of our party and your ultimate victory in the 2027 elections,” Al-Makura said.
