The political landscape in Oyo State witnessed a significant shift on Monday, April 6, 2026, following the appointment of Hon. Olufemi Onireti as Director-General of the City Boy Movement, a grassroots mobilisation platform supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The appointment was formally announced in Abuja on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, by the movement’s national Director-General, Francis Shoga, during the presentation of the appointment letter to Onireti.
Onireti’s emergence comes just days after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was a prominent member and former House of Representatives candidate.
The movement’s leadership said his selection was informed by his extensive political network, organisational experience, and strong grassroots appeal, particularly among youths and community stakeholders.
In his acceptance remarks, Onireti expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to leverage his experience to advance the movement’s objectives across the state.
He explained that his decision to align with the ruling party stemmed from personal conviction, ongoing political realignments, and a commitment to building a broader progressive coalition at both state and national levels.
According to him, the appointment followed wide consultations with his supporters and allies, assuring that his leadership would focus on inclusiveness, strategic mobilisation, and effective communication.
“I am committed to galvanising our structures and ensuring that Oyo State remains a stronghold for the ideals we stand for,” he said.
The City Boy Movement, a youth-driven platform promoting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, is expected to unveil a new operational roadmap in the coming days as it intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
