The move follows agreements reached during a recent high-level visit to Washington, DC, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu will head the Nigerian delegation to the Joint Working Group, supported by a multi-stakeholder team drawn from strategic government ministries and security institutions.
Members of the group include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Bernard M. Doro; Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Ms. Idayat Hassan of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Paul Alabi of the Embassy of Nigeria in the United States will serve as the secretariat for the Joint Working Group.
President Tinubu urged the members to work diligently with their US counterparts to ensure smooth implementation of all agreements across sectors, reiterating his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through international cooperation.
