Senator Oluremi Tinubu has condemned the assault of girls during a community festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable.
In a press statement, Tinubu said she watched viral footage showing girls being physically and sexually assaulted during the event in Ozoro. She said no cultural practice or tradition justifies the violation of the dignity and freedom of women and girls.
The senator acknowledged the country’s cultural diversity but stressed that such values must not be used to excuse abuse.
She commended the Nigeria Police Force for making arrests in connection with the incident and called on authorities to ensure all those responsible are prosecuted.
Tinubu also urged the victims to seek medical and psychological support following the incident.
She expressed hope for their recovery, wishing them healing, peace, and strength.
