A branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the Oke Isegun area of Eruku, a border community between Kwara and Kogi States, was on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, thrown into chaos after armed Fulani terrorists stormed the church during a worship session, killing three congregants and abducting several others, including the presiding pastor.
The attackers struck while the service was being live-streamed.
In the video, worshippers were seen praying when sudden bursts of gunfire erupted outside the building. Panic immediately set in as the young pastor leading the service urged the congregation to take cover. Moments later, the gunmen forced their way into the church.
More than five armed assailants were captured on video invading the sanctuary, ransacking the auditorium and dispossessing worshippers of their belongings before marching a number of them into the bush. The exact number of abductees remains uncertain.
A witness said the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately as they entered the premises. “Three people died on the spot. After the shooting, they gathered some worshippers, including our pastor, and took them away,” the witness recounted.
Community leaders say Eruku has come under repeated attacks in recent weeks. Benjamin Ayeoribe, a prominent figure in the area, lamented what he described as the authorities’ failure to respond to multiple distress calls.
“For the past three weeks, terrorists have been troubling our community. We have appealed to both the local and state governments, but nothing concrete has been done. People here live in fear every single day,” he said.
The incident comes less than 48 hours after terrorists abducted 25 students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, further deepening concerns over the rising wave of insecurity.
Security experts warn that the proximity of Ekiti and Osun, two South-Western states, to Eruku heightens fears that the theatre of attacks is expanding beyond the North-Central region.
